Genres: Platformer, RPG, Strategy, Shooter
This camera is most widely used by games which only require the user to see the play area from one position, the top or the side.
It is used in side scrolling platform games such as Mario where the game character is generally somewhere near the middle of the screen and must pass platform obstacles to progress and scroll the level to the end.
It is used in 2D top down shooters such as Ikaruga, where the player must continue up the scrolling screen shooting enemies to reach the level boss to progress.
For 2.5D games (2D gameplay, but in a 3D engine) the in engine setup is generally the level or environment vertical or horizontal in the world with the camera looking at the environment directly straignt on (unlike the slight angle in isometric games). The camera will follow the player wherever they move in the environment.
