Camera Position: Third Person (Medium Distance)
Genres: 3D Platformer,
The Medium distance Third Person Camera has a strong focus on both the character and the environment and how they interact.
This type of camera is used when the gameplay calls for high environmental awareness with the character positioning being of importance, such as 3D platforming, as well as for design reasons, where the designers want to show off a well designed character in a highly syilistically developed environment.
Games using this camera include Ratchet and Clank (Third Person Shooter/Platformer Hybrid), Banjo Kazooie, Spyro the Dragon.
The in-engine setup for a third person shooter/action game has the player character as a fully realised and animated mesh with the camera at a medium distance, creating an equal focus on the character and environment. As the camera is further away than the Close third person camera, any gunplay may be assisted by a targeting system or some form of auto-aim.
